With Mother’s Day just around the corner, we had a chat with our LA-based jewellery designer Maya Brenner about her own experiences with motherhood, and how she juggles life as a full-time mom and entrepreneur!
How does your family celebrate Mother’s Day in Los Angeles?
It’s different every year but it usually involves breakfast in bed, me getting pampered with a massage or spa for a few hours and then a lovely meal together.
What do you love doing with your kids?
They are getting older now (Jack is 13, and Sadie is 10) so they don’t really like to “play’ with me anymore. But my son is a huge movie buff so we do that together and my daughter loves makeup and nails so we have fun with that.
We know lots of clients and husbands will be purchasing the Maya Brenner initial necklace for their better half/ mom this Mothers Day (us included!) Can you tell us why this gift is so special?
It’s very simple and delicate but yet it makes a statement as a personalized piece. It means so much to be able to wear a little bit of your heart around your neck.
Being a successful mom entrepreneur yourself, can you offer any advice for all the busy working moms out there?
The work/ mom life is constant and never easy. For me to be able to do what I do I have really good help, an amazing boyfriend and a mother who will fly into town on a moment’s notice. Sometimes, you need to allow yourself to take that time for yourself to recharge and sometimes you just have to order in pizza for dinner!
What is the biggest lesson you have learned from becoming a mother?
No matter who you are…if it’s a friend who you think is a perfect mother or a celebrity – we ALL have some of the same or similar struggles and somehow that makes us connected in a very comforting way. I am very forgiving of myself and the mistakes I make along the way as long as I’m aware of them and paying attention.
