Don’t ever underestimate the hallowed plane outfit, people. There’s a balance of comfort and style, and with a pair of sportif pants and a jacket, you have both ends of the spectrum covered. Think of it as business on the top and comfort on the bottom. Your hair might go oily, your skin might dry out, but with a well-tailored jacket and a crisp white shirt, you’ll step off that plane looking impossibly fresh and important. And above all, feeling impossibly fresh and important.
You just can’t beat a traditional brunch, and no one does an NYC brunch quite like Balthazar. A hole-in-the-wall brasserie, this hotspot serves up a little slice of French fare from breakfast through to supper. They even have a brunch menu! We recommend the Balthazar Salad if you’re feeling more lunch-y, and Eggs Meurette if your craving something a little more breakfast-y.
Home for the next week, the Roxy Hotel is nestled within the buzzing Tribeca district and is home to some of the most incredible art-deco styling you’ll possibly ever see. Built around an incredible 8-story atrium, did we mention this hotel is also home to some of the most incredible acts from around the world? Running into Mick Jagger after a night cap G&T? Yep. This is as N. Y. C. as it gets.
Running from appointment to appointment to scope out the newest finds for the Calexico Woman is hard work you guys. Forget the stilettos and trench coats, it’s the end of Summer and our gal needs fibres that will breathe. A silk blouse, great-fitted pair of Rachel Comey jeans (keep your eye out for these, they’re on the way!) and brand new Rag & Bone loafer are all it takes to stay cool. Literally.
After a long day of trade shows and designer meet-and-greets, Nicky is Il Buco bound. It’s no coincidence that she picked this spot to wine and dine with old friends, after all, there are no such thing as coincidences *winky face. This is possibly her favourite restaurant on the planet. Known for its rustic farmhouse quarters, atmospheric wine cellar and ridiculously amazing food, we can’t even slip you any hot recommendations…because you just can’t go wrong.
Ok. Get excited. Day 6 holds the promise of trade shows and form shows of the most exquisite releases from Alexis, Rag & Bone, Nili Lotan, Michelle Mason, Jonathan Simkhai, Rails, Vince, ALC and Smythe. You know, just to name a few. There might be a few other names you might recognise in there that you’ve never seen in the flesh before, but we’re going to keep those up our sleeves… WATCH THIS SPACE.
Prepare yourself. You’re about to get some serious local insight. A true New Yorker starts the night at the Boom Boom Room for sunset cocktails and views of the city. Followed by a spot of Japanese on Bond Street (try and say that three times in a row really quickly!). Get the tuna tartare wheels. They’re amazing. So amazing that Nicky usually gets another lot for dessert. But shhh. You didn’t hear it from us. And finally, you’re going to finish the night at the Gordon Rooftop bar on Thompson in Soho.
Shopping at somewhere other than Calexico? What a travesty! Kidding. Style is all about trying new things and collecting pieces that mean something to you from all the places you go. Same rules apply even for the queen of Calexico herself. Her go-to shopping destinations for Day 8 are Barneys New York and Intermix. And when she says “go-to” she really means it!
And finally, with the end of the New York buying trip comes another airport outfit. As if we weren’t going to include a second look. Variety is the spice of life as far as plane outfit inspo is concerned.
